Put your hands together, Lindelani Mahlalela

Be afraid be very afraid. In another bid to upgrade campushighlights, the team has acquired the services of the most talented cartoonist of our time "LINDENI MAHLALELA". Yes if you are in some sort of leadership position or according to us in the public eye, you will be featured. Not worry though he wont make shower projections on your head or make you reflect a beetroot. In essence he will reflect just what is on campus at the particular time. On the left is a snippet of one of his works. So I say again put your hands together.Ayeeee ye!

ARE YOU CLOGGING UP SPACE???????

Words of wisdom, guys and girls let us be realistic. it is with sadness that my advise comes in the mist of exams, but 'studying is the most important thing here' think about it, there were thousands if not millions of applicants and wanna be applicants who couldn't make the exemption or cut the grade. at the same time there were another couple of thousands who made the grade but couldn't get in to varsity because the space was given to you. or they lacked funds, I am interested in those that couldn't get space. don't you think you are being unfair by clogging up space here, as the years go you register this course and de-register that, one could say that you lack direction and shouldn't even have been here in the first place, if you are that type of person think about that guy who couldn't get to varsity whom given half a the chance would have been out of here a long time ago. look at your student number (as you read what year in fact not by year are you in) do you reflect that person.if you reflect a kind of person afore described, do yourself and your country a favour that is worth a huge weight.Study and pass or just open the gap for a person deserving of a chance. More Revelations in our time.

Just a little run down for readers who don't know what the big deal is about the controversial 'Arms Deal' and the SA Government, it goes like this...in a nutshell..
In the early years of South Africa’s shining happy Rainbow democracy, while the citizens were lolling in the afterglow, the ANC government spent R60 billion on military arms that the country didn’t need. British and German investigators suspected that bribes of over one billion rand were paid to facilitate the deal. Jacob Zuma, Thabo Mbeki and the late Joe Modise have all been drawn into the saga. Andrew Feinstein, an ANC Member of Parliament who attempted to investigate the deal against the wishes of the party leadership, has written the explosive story of what really happened in the arms deal: the personalities, the scheming, the cover-up and the corruption. In chronicling the ANC’s decline into a run-of-the-mill, tawdry governing party under Thabo Mbeki, Feinstein revealed in his recently released book 'After the Party', the inner workings of the ANC in office. After the Party tells the story of a cosmopolitan, white, Jewish South African, married to a Bangladeshi Muslim (hau..!), who was deeply committed to the ANC until he was expected to choose between his principles and the party.

Well, seems Andrew has caused quite a stir by sticking to his principles, goody, but I'm sure he was rather nervous when he decided to leg it to the UK where he now lives with his wife and kids, and works as a financial consultant! Don't blame him..shitstix..some folk have been necklaced for a lot less!
The circumstances surrounding his decision to reveal extraordinary insights into the state of contemporary South Africa and the battles currently raging within the ANC, and the release of the book at the end of October seemed to be smack on time to cause a bit of itchy scratchy with the run up to the presidential nominations. One can only hope that this snow ball is going to really gather momentum from here on...we can all hope, that said, who better to help pull the rug out from under the ANC than one of their own..!
"Who the fuck do you think you are, questioning the integrity of the government, the ministers and the president?" - Essop Pahad to Andrew Feinstein
Two of the key figures in the genesis of the arms-deal scandal -- Patricia de Lille and Andrew Feinstein -- went public again this week, fanning the embers of a corruption storm that has been smouldering for nine years.Feinstein, the former African National Congress (ANC) leader of Parliament's public accounts watchdog Scopa, resigned when the party moved to curtail investigations into the arms deal. He is now living in London. He was in South Africa this week to launch his new book, After the Party, which contains dramatic new revelations on the affair. And De Lille alleged in Parliament this week that she had evidence of three payments by warship supplier Thyssen-Krupp on January 29 1999, each of R500 000, to the ANC, to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and to the Community Development Foundation, a Mozambique charity associated with Mandela's wife, Graça Machel. The payments were allegedly made into foreign accounts with Credit Suisse First Boston. The three entities have denied any knowledge of the payments, while Thyssen has declined to comment. But it is the details revealed by Feinstein that are likely to prompt new scrutiny of the arms deal and the investigation process. In his book Feinstein alleges:That former defence minister Joe Modise received more than R10-million from a variety of bidders; That a report submitted by Scorpions investigators to their bosses recommended that arms deal corruption involving the ANC itself should be investigated. This was driven by a number of factors, Feinstein writes, including "trips that the party's treasurer general, Mendi Msimang, made to Switzerland to meet the successful bidders"; andThat Italian submarine bidders Fincantiere were told they had won the contract, but were informed later that they had been dropped in favour of the Germans. They were offered the chance to "better the Germans" via a payment of $15-million in bribes.Feinstein points out that this is the same sum under investigation by the German authorities, in relation to an amount allegedly solicited by South Africa's former chief of acquisitions, Chippy Shaik. Shaik has denied the allegation.Feinstein also contradicts public claims by senior government figures that there was no attempt to interfere with the probe into the arms deal once Parliament had authorised a joint investigation team (JIT).He writes: "I was told by someone from the JIT about a meeting with the president at which they… were told who they could and could not investigate."Elsewhere he claims: "It was made clear to investigators that a shadowy financier close to Mbeki and Zuma who has played an ongoing role in financing the ANC, was off limits."One investigator told Feinstein: "The hand of the presidency over the investigation was palpable."He notes: "For instance, the charge sheet for the arrest of Schabir Shaik was drawn up to charge both Shaik and Zuma. When presented to Bulelani Ngcuka, he is alleged to have responded: 'I will charge the deputy president only if my president agrees.'"Recounting how he was hauled before the party's top brass after Parliament had authorised its own investigation, Feinstein writes: "I was given a brief opportunity to try to explain the prima facie evidence we had and the process we were following."Within a few minutes [Minister in the Presidency Essop] Pahad had launched into a ferocious diatribe, spluttering 'Who the fuck do you think you are, questioning the integrity of the government, the ministers and the president?' Pointing aggressively at me, he shouted that we should simply withdraw the resolution."

Your Sincerely Fika Mathe

By Fika Mathe

Eita gents couldn't wait any longer. This is an interesting but very controversial issue, it needs critical thinking when dealing with. It is surprising that some girls and guys manage to sleep with more than four people in one month, not consideration whether those people are just by passers or boy/girl friends, but the same people have a nerve of judging somebody who is a sex worker. How different is a person who sleeps with three people in a week just for the fun of it to a person who sleeps with the same number of people just to make a living and earn means of survival? People, is this about money or is this about sexual morality and respecting one's body which is God's gift and temple? Then if it is about morality and self respect, then these two categories are no different from each other. And actually when looked from an economic and intellectual perspective, the one which does it for money is even better because he/she at least gains something out of it to try and make some aspect of their life better. These people (sex workers) can also be seen as better-off because they show some sense and they do something risky for a reasonable reason than some one who does the same act for free of charge and just for fun. It’s an economic principle guys- The cost- benefit analysis works here. The one who sleeps around for money is at least saying I am worth something, they at least attach some value to there bodies, though it is being undervalued. This is better than someone who sleeps around just as most of the people do just for mahhala, treating themselves as valueless, allowing anybody to violate their body anyhow at no cost. Hear me very well, I am not supporting prostitution in anyway, but I am against people who judge others and to find that they do the same thing indirectly and even worse off, because they gain nothing from it. So if you know that you have more than one sexual partner, I would suggest that you don’t even begin judging prostitutes, because you are no better than them and in fact you are even worse than them. They are better, both morally and economically speaking. No hard feelings about, just an expression of thoughts.Mojah, Fikzozo( Fika)

FOOD FOR SOUL- Make Mistakes - Really Okay!!!

When you fall, do you get right back up? Do you learn from your mistake and move on? Or do you kick yourself so hard in the butt that you just mope around for days in your PJs and wonder why you're so miserable? Come on! Get a grip!Okay, okay, that was uncalled for, but seriously, the more mistakes you make, the more you learn. The more you learn the more you grow and the more likely you'll be a future bright star in the sky. When you were a young growing child, how were you supposed to know the oven was hot? Or that you can't put metal in the microwave? Or that when you say something impolite you'll hurt someone's feelings? You would have either experienced these things first hand, or you were taught that these were all things to avoid.Mistake AnxietyA constant fact of life is that we all make mistakes. What varies is how we all handle a self-inflicted setback. Some get angry; others get upset, while others encounter the wretched beast known as denial (What mistake? It wasn't me!).Just like we mentioned in a previous article: "The Key's in the Hole. Now turn it!", it's important to take a chance! If you make a mistake, at least you turned the key and made a valiant attempt. If you were too terrified of turning the key, you never would have known whether you would have been successful or not! And you couldn't have possibly made a mistake to learn from!I mean, how can you learn without messing up every once in a while?

BOW DOWN FOR THE INTERNATIONAL BLOGGERS

In Zulu we say, 'into enhle iyabongwa' yes as the semester draws nearer and nearer to its end there is a roller coaster ride of emotion. One thing we would like to say to 'you' yes you is that thank you for managing to take time out from your studying and logged onto CH. Not only for today though, in the past couple of weeks CH has seen a very significant number of growth in people who log on. This can be attributed to our hard working technical director Nkosiyethu otherwise known as Osama, who has boomed our campus with his masterpiece 'campushighlights'. Today we are standing at more than 6ooo people and fast approaching 10 ooo in just less than five months. we get regular hits from Cape Town, JHB(Rosebank) DBN and as if that is not enough we get more hits from the US than we get from Jhb and cape town, the list of international loggers is endless. There is Canada, Jamaica, Tanzania, Germany, Rwanda, if I had to count every country i would take half a page. The bottom line is that as you log on today you have not chosen the wrong people, 'res ipse liquitor' ( the facts speak for themselves because we are INTERNATIONAL( world wide if you like).

COUNT DOWN TO LIMPOPO

By Kombisa Sidloyi

A lengthy audit of ANC branches has come to an end thereby puting an end to the widespread uncertainty over how many votes at the leadership contest will go to branches in SA's nine provinces.

The party announced on Thursday that 906 votes, almost 25% of the total 3 675, would go to delegates from Eastern Cape province. KwaZulu-Natal will send 608 delegates to Limpopo. An additional 400 votes will be assigned to members of the National Executive Committee, Women's League and other bodies. "This audit is now final and complete," ANC Secretary General Kgalema Motlanthe told reporters at the party's headquarters in Johannesburg.

Motlanthe, an intellectual who has good relations with both the Mbeki and Zuma camps, also has been mentioned as a possible ANC leader.

STUDENTS ARE WARNED

As part of the tender specifications, the Department of Health requires that all condoms be certified by SABS as being of adequate quality in terms of the standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The Department of Health is recalling all condoms supplied by one of the seven companies, Zalatex (and produced by Latex Surgical Products [LSP]) as a precautionary measure. This follows charges that Zalatex bribed an official of the SABS to approve condoms that were not conforming to the quality standards. Close to 5 million condoms supplied by Zalatex have been collected since the recall and an additional 7,5 million condoms have been quarantined at the company's warehouse. An urgent meeting of the Bid Adjudication Committee has been called for next week to review the contract with Zalatex and the recommendation from the Department of Health is that the contract should be cancelled. The Department has ceased buying any stock from Zalatex. The public is urged to continue to support the recall of these condoms by returning to the nearest health facility all condoms with a lot number: 4308/ZLX*.

In the meantime, it is important to continue to encourage the correct and consistent use of condoms as an important barrier against unwanted pregnancies and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including HIV infection. The Department of Health will continue to work together with SABS to ensure that all condoms distributed by government conform to the quality standard set by the WHO.

Being Gay On Campus

By Osama Ka Sethenjwa Dumakude
Socrates, Philosopher; Sir Elton Jones, Rock Star; Frederick the Great, King of Prussia; Barney Frank, U.S. Congressman; George Michael, musician, Someone you know ,Someone you work with, Someone you care about, Someone you respect, Someone you love, the list of gay eminent people is endless.
South Africa's post-apartheid constitution enshrines gay and lesbian rights through statutes on equality which ban discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, as well as race and gender. That follows a tumult over the gay and lesbian rights. I am quite sure that there is someone you respect or attend Ethics or Biology lecture with who is gay or lesbian. The credit for new innovations should go to those people who have secured a place for all homosexual people in the new South Africa. Through dedication, hard work, and sheer drive they have been instrumental in shaping the new law modification governing the practice of homosexuality, gays place in the work force and their civil rights. The BIG question is how we, as students, treat our fellow students who are homosexual. Are they what they are by choice or by nature? What is our perception towards them and what is their perception towards us?
Whatever the cause of homosexuality may be but the purpose of this article is mainly to tell everybody to feel free to disclose their beliefs, sexual orientation and their political inclination that they think they best articulate and represent their ideas and needs. Fortunate enough this campus boasts so many organizations which serve as a platform for students to voice their concerns.
Everybody has been to high school level and there were times when he/she was protesting for his/her freedom in silence. University is a place where each of you must try to discover thyself. It is a place where one should try to create her/ his own sense of identity. Whether you are what you are by either choice or nature but be proud of yourself. Yes, human beings have innate degree of conformity, but you must not sacrifice what satisfies your desires in the name of conformity. Try not to confuse your freedom and responsibility. Be what you are as long as it is self-regarding.
There might be stigma attached to being gay or lesbian but persist on leading your homosexual life so that people will see that there is nothing wrong with what you are.
In conclusion, let it be clear to everybody that this article was written to shed some light to the much-debated topic of homosexuality, not to provoke the homosexuals. They are more than welcomed to respond this article

SA citizens think Zuma will be President:Survey

By Khombisa Sidloyi

Research surveys showed today that "most" South Africans think Zuma will be the next President. The second most popular candidate was current Deputy President

Zuma-27%
Ngcuka-10%
Mbeki-8%
Ramaphosa-7%
Sexwale-6%
Zille-4%
Nkosazana-Zuma-3%
Manuel-2%
De lille-2%

Poor Understanding of politics

"However we should'nt get too excited". The fact that some people opted for candidates that are not from the ruling party demonstrates a lack of political understanding. Yes they are exercising their views which is constitutionally correct, but then offcourse when excersing democracy we should do so being mentally sober.
The survey also asked respondents if they thought Zuma becomming the President in 2009 would bring disaster to the country. 48% felt doom was imminent, this feeling differed between race groups.
30% of Blacks felt a Zuma Presidency would be disastrous, 69% of Whites, 78% of coloureds and 81% of Indians felt the same. 36% of the inhabitants of the Durban region predicted disaster if Zuma would come to power.

ADDING SOME HUMOUR TO YOUR DAY

Malherbe wins the prestigious tournament

By Thabani Magubane
It all began when the UKZN Soccer Committee organized a greatest of all tournaments- The UKZN Champions League. The tournament was held on the 6th of October 2007 at Howard College. Sixteen teams from all the UKZN campuses with Nelson Mandela Campus falling under Howard College participating in the tournament. The top four from each UKZN Campus League were selected to participate in the tournament. Siwelele, Greater Malherbe, WOB and Denison represented PMB in the tournament. It was PMB Campus that proved to be the best with three of our teams (G. Malherbe, Siwelele and Denison) reaching the Semi-Finals. The PMB teams dominated in all the games. In the first game Siwelele won 6 – 1 to P – Block (Westville) the so called the best, G. Malherbe drew 2 – 2 with New Res (Howard) which has the best players representing the UKZN soccer team and G. Malherbe won 3 – 1 on penalties, Denison won 5 – 1 , unfortunately for WOB they lost on penalties after 1- 1 draw. In the quarterfinals, G. Malherbe won 2 – 1 to Shakers, Siwelele won on penalties after a one all draw.
Already three out of four teams from PMB had already qualified for the semis. In the 1st semis Siwelele again won on penalties after a hot goalless match and had qualified for the finals. G. Malherbe was suppose to play against Denison in the 2nd semi-finals but since it was late, and only the PMB Campus teams were left, it was decided that the second semi-final (G. Malherbe vs. Denison) and final were going to be played in PMB. The 2nd semi-final between G. Malherbe and Denison was played in Greenfield on the 20th October 2007. Malherbe dominated the whole game and the final score was 3 – 0 in favour of G. Malherbe (the untouchable boys: “Abafana Bamaskofiya”). The final between G. Malherbe and Siwelele was held on the 21st October 2007 at Greenfield. This was the dream match for all soccer supporters in PMB, although the sun was burning hot but Greenfields was packed with both G. Malherbe and Siwelele supporters. The 1st half was not interesting as it seemed as if both teams were trying to understand the opponents’ style of play. In the 1st minute of the 2nd half Siwelele broke the deadlock with only four passes as they caught G. Malherbe napping. G. Malherbe boy came back to equalise with only 10 minutes left on the clock. The matches ended up in a one all; draw, and went on to penalties. All Siwelele players missed penalties even their most trusted one Lindo “Skhafthini” Zamisa missed, therefore allowing G. Malherbe to win it in style, 3 -0 on penalties. It would have been very sad for G. Malherbe if they did not win this one because they failed to win the league and the cup although they pulled off good performances for the rest of the season. Congratulations to Greater Malherbe “Abafana Bamaskofiya”

To all the teams that represented PMB in Howard College; you guys made us proud and showed that our Campus League is the best in whole of UKZN.

WHY BOKS ARE THE BEST

1. Bok fans aren't surprised and grateful when their team wins matches, they're surprised when their team loses.
2. Green and gold jerseys look cool on all kinds of South Africans, but white jerseys make England supporters look like the love children of unhealthy Zombies and dead fish.3. We actually have 15 players in our team, rather than just Jonny Wilkinson and 14 old guys.
4. The South African sports media might be a self-serving, sycophantic bunch of freeloaders, but at least they aren't staked out outside the team hotel hoping to get a picture of Monty's wife tanning topless.
5. Our coach has got a chin (okay, more than one when he speaks Afrikaans).6. The Boks' traditional rivals actually come from different countries like New Zealand and Australia, as opposed to being English provinces, like Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
7. Fans of other teams hate the Boks because they're hard bastards - they hate the English because they're hypocrites who won't admit they're hard bastards.
8. Instead of wanky names like Jason, Jonny, Martin and Phil, our players have cool names like Os, Bakkies, Wikus, Akona, and, uh, Percy. (Dammit, trust Percy to ruin everything again).
9. Bok fans don't mind being hated, because of all the practice we had during the apartheid years. English fans, on the other hand, can't seem to understand why the rest of the world loathes them.10. Win or lose on Saturday, Bok fans are flying back to a summer of hot babes and beaches. English fans are doomed to a winter of sleet and clogged M1.
11. (Everyone knows South Africans can't count)
Schalk Burger pushes the earth down when he does press ups. Martin Corry sticks his bum in the air.

TIPS FOR THE INCOMING HOUS COMM

1Make sure you utilise your budget effectively, don't leave 14 000 for the university rather overspend.

2Although it may appear that they dont want t-shirts, they do and they will hate you if you dont get the t-shirts.

3. If there is a braai make sure everyone gets meat, dont let people see you goin into your room with it and have abraai with your friends the next day.

4.If you have nothing good on your manifesto.pick on the microwaves. They are the esiest target or the laundery for that matter.

5.If you are a sports officer if nothing happens in your office pick on the campus league, as if there is no other sport you can facilitate

6.If you win don't think its going to be the measure of your popularity when it comes to Src. Its a whole different ball game, ask the outgoing housecomm of WOB

7. Dont think you are going to take over Campus Highlights its not the house comms

8.And please refrain from making your self look stupid, by pulling people at voting stations and smiling at them pretending to be their friends.

9.Most importantly remain accountable.

10.Last but not least take no notes from the outgiong wob house comm.it is in my opinion that they didnt do a good job.

The Battle of Thabani's- Unjustifiable diabolical arrogance filled this hogwash!

By Thabani Dladla Student Activist,Writing in his personal capacity

It was with sad eyes that almost swam in tears when I read Thabani Mkhize’s (Students: apathetic and opportunistic 24/10/07 Witness, and repeated on Campus Times, October 2007 edition Are Universities breeding incompetent, immoral leaders? Also Make SRC work for you). Mr Mkhize who is a former Sport editor of the controversial Nux, and an Honours students made me sad because I was not sure after reading his melodrama and hasty generalisation if he was applying the new form of journalism that is opportunistic in this country, as he is an Honours student the labour sector is close at his door perhaps he is doing his level best to be positioned right to get that job or pave a way for greener pastures than telling like it is, it is the evolution of the new journalist that have thrown the ethics in the sea that have forsaken integrity when they write to pave careers and win awards to secure best jobs in journalism, these small and growing journalist who will do anything to get a story?

stooge or just student ?

Apparently a strange phenomenon has hit our campus politics. Those in the know articulate that our campus politics is infested by ‘stooges’. What exactly is a stooge and where do you draw the line between being in ‘tutelage’ and being a stooge? Those in the know even mention names of such stooges ( whom by the way I always see in the company of their alleged master) . I challenge those in the know to send us mail and if possible lead us to the way of the stooges. We will make sure we give them a chance to comment.( picture by www. mg.co.za/shapiro)

Campus Highlights congratulates Springboks for their sensational victory against England. We see no need to give the match report.

SRC Inuaguration was a crap

SRC REALLY STARTS ON A WRONG FOOT. You can call me names but I don’t have to remain silent when things do not go well. I happen to be a leader and I don’t criticize other structures of leadership because I know that ‘Inxeba lendoda alihlekwa’ . On Friday we went to the SRC Inuaguration in Howard College. Let me tell you the proceedings step by step.

It was announced, through GroupWise that the event will start at 6h00. That meant we had to leave PMB at 4h00. Let me tell you what happened. There was only one bus for people who can fit in three buses. There was hullabaloo in the main gate as people were trying to squash into one bus. These guys were up and down claiming to be organising the buses for us. The students did not stop demanding the explanation for the inconvenience. They said Freda (SU administrator) did not give the order number to the bus operator. I knew they were lying. They spoke of getting the taxis. It took another hour to secure those taxis. If it wasn’t for Sammy Mashite we wouldn’t have left. That guy organised people and made sure that everyone was seated and the bus left(BUT WHERE WERE THE MEMBERS OF THE NEW SRC THEMSELVES ?). It was around 8:30 when the bus left and we were already late. We reached Durban at 10:00 due to traffic and for the fact that we were travelling by bus. When we arrived there everything was over and many people had left. That meant our SCR is not inaugurated except the president who was nowhere to be seen. I think he left PMB early, which leaves me with questions. Where is team spirit, how can you leave your subordinates behind and rush to Durban leaving things dishevelled behind. The other person I did not see is Ali. If they start on this note can we have confidence on them?( Take part in the poll on this page) We stayed there for one hour and we came back- what a waste of time.

However we need to support them. They were elected by us.( WE WILL MAKE SURE WE GET ONE MEMBER OF THE SRC TO COMMENT, BUT BE THAT AS IT MAY. THE FACTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES IN THIS CASE.

MAN FROM THE BIBBLE

It seems some people are too slow to get it, one wonders how they got to varsity. But anyway. Procedures are there to be followed, lately I’ve been bugged by some guy (I will mention his name if he continues) that he needs the pass words to post some articles on the site. I told him if he wants to post something he needs to send us mail (like everyone else) and If we feel its good enough we will publish it. But he was adamant that I was against him and I am so opposed to his views. Prominent writers ( Chessa, Kotini, G, Thabani Dladla to name a few ) of the site know the procedure and follow it. How this guy is special I have no Idea. So Mr get it through your head you might hold some possession in your organisation but that doesn’t make a difference to us. Follow the procedure. Luky Dube is no more

Campus Highlights is sad to announce the demise of our reggae music legend Lukcy Dube. According to Mail & Guardian the artist was shot dead in a highjacking on Thursday( last night) Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the incident took place at about 8.20pm when Dube (43) was driving a blue Volkswagen Polo in the Johannesburg suburb. He was dropping off his son in the area when he was attacked. "His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help." said Engelbrecht.

Dube, born in Johannesburg on August 3 1964, was named "Lucky" as he was born in poor health and doctors thought he would die, according to Wikipedia. But Dube survived and went on to become a front-line artist in the reggae genre. However, the singer's website,
Luckydubemusic.com, says: "Giving birth to a boy was considered a blessing and his mother considered his birth so fortunate that she aptly named him Lucky."

I WRITE WHAT I LIKE- Are we not demanding too much

By Osama

I am a black South African, even blacker than the blackest black. I have been caught between two extremes of the deeper edges of my mind. Yesterday I serendipitiously found a very racist blog in which the blogmaster was questioning the intelligence of us, (us) meaning'blacks'.( me included) . His arguement was based on the DNA tests wihch he claimed they prove so. He provided no empirical evidence. Well my todays topic is not about that and I can't susbcribe to such senseless outlook. One thing for sure is that intelligence is not about race.
For the past few years there has been strike(s) where ,we - the blacks, have been complaining about the high university tuition fees. Actually our SASCO was demanding something they called "free tertiary education'. I am trying to figure out how possible is that in our country. I don't want to reach my superficial conclusion of that they( SASCO+ ANCYL+SADESMO and any other students leadership organisation) are trying to be popular in an irrational way.

MBOTHO HITS BACK

By Mthobisi Mbotho[Senior Tutor History Department]

As much as I agree that the Tutoring Project Ball went wrong we should not criticise our executive or leaders, as the loopholes and failure of the Ball was a mistake of the hotel employee who did not reserve the place for the TP members and their partners.

Our executive follow the proper channels of booking and paying on time the fees which were recommended by the Tropicana hotel management. We should not use the campus highlights as a platform of misleading the student of the UKZN, but to use it as a way of building ourselves and acknowledge the handwork which has been done by our executive to make an alternative as we did get another venue by the assistance of Ndumiso Mkhize. Asingabini amavezandlebe asibuzeni uma singazi, since some of us does not used his or her sense of hearing or his sense of hearing is impaired as we were told by the T.P EXECUTIVE and the invited guest including our very own UKZN ALUMNI NDUMISO MKHIZE that the criticism must go to the Tropicana hotel for their immaturity, of not reserving the venue for us.

The issue of T.P Members pushing the bus is not a matter of concern since we should understand that the Marine parade area is the busiest place in Durban there are no parking for large vehicles. The area which was a free space unfortunately was full of sand covered by grass which make difficult for a bus driver to recognise that it was not suitable for parking.

FROM THE EDITOR

Mr Mbotho, Thank you for shedding some light in this issue. However your account leaves our readers with plethora of unanswered asks. Campus Highlights understands that it is the duty of every member to protect an image of an organisation he/she belongs, but that does not necessarily mean that one has to protect it at all times.

As much as we should blame the hotel owners, TP executive is not immune to blame. Did they confirm that they were coming at least a day before. I know that payment implies confirming but any reasonable person would have phoned a hotel and asked if everything is according to plans. Campus Highlights do applauds the TP executive for securing the alternative venue, but the question that lingers on is that why did all the mess happened in the first place. I understand your explanation of why you were forced to push the bus, but I was told that the bus was not up to scratch. We at Campus Highlights like to publish the stories that builds- to prove that- We did not tell our readers that there were some beatings because we don't like to worsen the tension. Mr Mbotho we can you deny the allegations that a particular tutor slapped an exec member?

Mr Mbotho have a lot to reveal.

Tutoring Project Ball A Disaster- A Diary post by a member

In this world there are those things you really can’t classify or give a name. This years’ Tutoring project ball was on one of those event haunted by unique and rare scenes that you read about in novels and action movies. ‘It was really insane and most embarrassing scenes I have ever experienced in the days of my life’, said one of the guest that attended the meeting.

The function was held on Saturday in Durban??????(I can’t remember because I was too hungry to memorise anything)Apparently the hotel was not booked, it seemed as if there was miscommunication within the hotel taking so many people to a blank spot? Probably the excitement of being in power is the answer to my question.

The guests arrived in Durban and they had to wait outside the hotel for about one and a half hour before it came to the executive cognizance that the hotel was not booked. The hotel manager was willing to refund the transport costs so that everyone could leave Durban home. The worst thing is that we waited outside the hotel with empty stomachs and no explanation was given. Guess what we ate. The y bought packets of chips from the street vendors. Some of us ate potato chips.

The venue that was booked was not any different from C1 in commerce. The conference finally started after midnight. The guests had to listen to the stale jokes by the exec. Finally we got our first meal of the day at 02:30 AM. At least quarter chicken and rolls put smiles back to people’s faces. The exec came closely to buying the bunny chows (phew) for the guests. The only thing that prevented them from doing so was that abomama abadayisa emgwaqeni base begoqile.

This year TP ball was a huge embarrassment. The TP exec was a big joke. This leaves us with questions. ‘What makes a good organiser and a leader? Does the fact that one went to good school and speaks good English means he/she is a good leader.

ANCYL IN PARTICULAR AND PYA IN GENERAL EMERGED AS THE BEST

By: Siyabonga ‘Kotini’ Nene, YCL Umgungundlovu District Secretary, ANCYL member, SASCO member

The environment in which we are located is extremely polluted, contaminated and diluted, and unfortunately it is therefore cumbersome to divorce ourselves from such. This get expression through people portraying themselves as mouthpiece of students. Others, off course driven by higher level of paranoia, extremely low level of sanity, power hunger, bankruptcy of intelligence, political thirst, absence of clarity and intellectual emptism, they went as far as saying students are tired of Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) which in this campus is comprised of African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), South African Student Congress (SASCO) and Young Communist League (YCL). These pseudo political analysts or pseudo political experts would create this false and non-existent picture that PYA and its components have outlived its usefulness and it has also become distasteful and irrelevant to students, when they speak you might think they have conducted a scientific research. And these individuals have this rotten and infantile tendency of closing a room for either interrogation or debate which makes it difficult for anyone who may want to engage them. When such view is put on authenticity test through democratic process (SRC election), students vehemently and fundamentally distanced themselves from that. As we struggle to propel society into a new stage of free education we will continue to articulate more clearly the continuing historical basis of the PYA, the shared objectives of its component organizations, its shared obligations of the students, and its common program to achieve the objectives of the national democratic revolution. ..........Continues

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?Have you ever wondered why isn't 11 pronounced onety one and 22 twoty two? Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car not called a racist? have you ever wondered If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, why doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked and drycleaner depressed? Why is it that if someone tells you that there are 1 billion stars in the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet paint you will have to touch it to be sure? Why if people from Poland are called "Poles," why aren't people from Holland called "Holes?" If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery? Have you ever wondered why the unknown is represented with the letter X and not W or Q? Why is the square enclosure in which boxers fight called a 'ring'? Have you ever wondered why porpcorn pops. Why 13 is called an unlucky number? Why can't women put on mascara with their mouths closed? Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

Chessa`s Concern- OF POLITICS OF BACKSTABBING, CAMPUS ACTIVISTS, SELF-MADE STOOGES AND THE REVOLUTION

BLOGMASTRES NOTE: Gentlemen and Ladies I beg you to read this one from Mr Zondi. Although its not in simple language but it is HOT !! and straight to the point.

Chessa: As you correctly said, articles should be submitted to you for publication in your website therefore here is the article. I must confess that its a bit discouraging to perpetually write articles without getting people to critique it (i.e. the content) not me as a person. You see when people do not respond, I will not be able to intellectual grow simple because I will not know the weakness in my arguments thus I am running the risk of assuming that my views are the gospel truth which anyway I believe they are but surely I do have weakness which ought to be identified by readers therefore I am asking you to encourage people to respond to articles but not for the sake of responding they must have content as well.

Malherbe wins the prestigious tournament

Congratulations to Greater Malherbe “Abafana Bamaskofiya”To all the teams that represented PMB in Howard College; you guys made us proud and showed that our Campus League is the best in whole of UKZN.

A ROUND OF APPLAUSE

Osama Dumakude writes

Somewhere in the country there is a province called KwaZulu Natal. In this province there is a gorgeous city called Pitermaritzburg. In the southern suburbs of this city is an institution of higher education: University of KwaZulu Natal. In this university there is a magnificent red-bricked student resident called William `O Brien. Those who know people of this resident better call them “The ultimate trendsetters”. You know nothing if you haven’t been to WOB. It’s alive with possibilities.

Since my first year of tenancy I have felt this spirit of brotherhood oozing through my blood vessels. The fact that WOB is a home for leaders is indisputable. The former Deputy President of the SRC, Kwazi Mshengu is a bona-fide Wobite. Did you know that Melusi Gwala, ex-RAG executive member, hails from C block? I hope you are aware of that
The chairman of ANCYL, Mdu Ntuli was once a Wobite. Did you know that Mthobeli Mankahla who held Finance and Projects in the SRC was a Wobite?
WOB is shining with its undying heroes. I am talking about the people who have exemplified courage, selflessness, exuberance, super student abilities and amazing grace. I am talking about Siyabonga Nene, Snothi Bhengu(ex-SRC). Their faces are dazzling in the walls and corridors of every building on campus. We are in an era that offers us the opportunity to change views on our resident and to point out what exciting possibilities – and realities – abound in WOBIt would be a remiss of me not to mention these people: Hlumani Zondi, Mhlonipheni Mthethwa- Golden key Members; Vusumuzi Ngcobo- the Secretary of Sport. How can I omit the likes of Nhlanhla Mbudu and Alfred Masemene- the members of Management faculty Committee. Do you know Thabani Mkhize? …he is a dreadlocked touchline sport editor for Nux. There is a lanky guy who is Chairperson of UKZNP soccer- that Msawenkosi Khumalo. He used to hand-in-glove with Elia Maluleke who is a Campus league convener. The list is incessant.

This day will go down in history as an epoch-making day for the people. I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for quality service in the history of our varsity. We want our leaders of tomorrow to be as great, if not better than those of today and yesterday.
I congratulate Mabandla Dlangamandla,Msawenkosi Sodwele and Justice Manana for their success in the elections and wish them all the best in the office. It would be a remiss of me not to congratulate Malusi Mchunu, ALI Muhammad and Sphetfo Dlamini .Campus Highlights also thanks also those who did not make it and urge them to play a role in making this varsity a better place.
Osama Dumakude – I am out..
